MEETING PLACE OR PARKING LOCATION

Meet at the parking lot, Huntington Square (Mall), on 211 Martindale Rd corner with Erion Rd, L2S-3V5 and near the Royal Bank drive through, closer to Martindale Rd.

TERRAIN:

Easy/Moderate/Challenging

Generally easy trails with good footing. Expect some gentle hilly sections. It can be muddy if we have rain few days early.

TYPE OF HIKE:

Loop, out and back, End to End

Out and back.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Point of interests

Combination of wide and narrow trails. Some gentle hilly sections along the 12 Mile Creek. Lovely part of St Catharines were there are some remnants of the industrial times. Picnic pavilion and community gardens at the half point. Possibly parking lot will be our meeting point for the next hike.

REGISTRATION

REQUIRED

Yes. A Must.

Leaders appreciate early registration and at least 24 hrs before the event.

CANCELLATION

   If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.

   The club may cancel due to  bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.

REGISTRATION OPENS

Two weeks before the hike. Up to 12 hikers are welcome to participate in this event.

WHAT TO BRING

   Hiking boots and if you wish bring your hiking poles

   Bring snacks and plenty of water.

   Carry First Aid and Tick Removal kits.

   Check the weather to wear extra layers for wind and rain as necessary. 

   NO proper washrooms available.

IMPORT COVID REMINDERS

The club’s Covid-19 Safety Guidelines will be observed. 

SOCIAL Aprés HIKE

Optional social after the hike, food and/or just drinks at a local restaurant at the end of the hike.

GUIDING NOTES:

HIKE PACE -  Leisure: 3 km/hr or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are average and depending on the terrain.

TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e. rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc) and Challenging: steep hills and strenuous footing (Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, Dundas Valley and Red Hill Valley). Please note variations can be expected with weather conditions.
