Camino Magnifico: Bruce Trail End-to-End, Hike # 10 (A)

Sat., July 4, 2020

Covid Measures: Hike # 10 (A) is restricted to the first half of the e-2-e group, 10 people. If there is no room in 10 (A), there may be in 10 (B). Both hikes are the same.

What and Where:  This series of hikes from Queenston Heights to Tobermory started in 2019 and it continues now from where we finished off last year. We are currently hiking the Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club's section of the Bruce Trail.

Who:  Participation in this hike is limited to HOC members who joined the E-2-E in 2019.

Time:  Beat the heat. We'll start at 8:00 a.m. but check in 7:45 a.m.

Meeting Place and Turnaround Place:  Another Covid measure is that you arrive with only one person in your car, the driver. Park on the wide shoulders of Snake Rd, both sides, where the Bruce Trail crosses. See Km 69.0 of Map # 9 of the 29th edition of the Bruce Trail Maps.  The route of the hike is from Snake Rd. to Hwy. 5 and hike back.

Type of Hike, Length, Pace, and Duration:  A 4+ hr. there-and-back hike, 18 km at 3.5-4.5 kmph

Terrain:  Demanding. Varies between a steep up and down in one place, flat with rocks and tree roots in another, and moderate ups and downs in another.

Overview:  This hike will be the last one in which the Bruce Trail stays close to Lake Ontario, offering us some expansive views of Burlington and the water.

Requirements:  Registrants must be HOC members and must have been steadily hiking with the group since 2019.  Also, hikers must register no later than midnight on the Thursday preceding the hike. If registration is full (10 people) for Group A, register for Group B on Sun., July5. It's the same hike with a different set of 10 people. Wear hiking boots and clothing suitable for the weather of the day. Bring snacks, lunch, and plenty of water, and I do mean plenty. You might also bring a face mask and hand sanitizer in case of close encounters of the yucky kind.

Leader: Richard Reble at reblerichard@gmail.com or 905-945-0536 anytime before 9:00 p.m.
