GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Point of interests

From the park, we will head west along the multi-purpose trail on Lakeshore Rd W.

On the way back we will take the trails from Burloak Waterfront Park and South Shell Park.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Yes. A Must.   Leaders appreciate early registration and at least 24 hours before the event.

CANCELLATION

   If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.

   The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.

REGISTRATION OPENS

2 weeks before the hike. Maximum participants = 15.

WHAT TO BRING

This is a Nordic walk so bring your telescoping hiking/walking poles with rubber booties as we will be on asphalt and concrete.  Sue will teach the Urban Poling technique for Nordic walking for anyone interested.  
Sue is a certified Urban Poling Instructor.

We will have some demonstration poles and booties available.

If your poles don’t have rubber booties check online for your pole manufacturer details.

Bring water and snacks.  Rain gear and/or sunscreen.

Washrooms at Shell Park (near Soccer fields) and Burloak Waterfront Park.

IMPORTANT COVID REMINDERS

The club’s Covid-19 Safety Guidelines will be observed.  

GUIDING NOTES:

HIKE PACE - Leisurely: 3 km/hr. or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr. or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are average and depending on the terrain.

 

TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e., rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc.) and Challenging: steep hills and strenuous footing (Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, Dundas Valley and Red Hill Valley). Please note variations can be expected with weather conditions.
