Trip Safety Requirements, What to Bring PFDs must be worn at all times while in your kayak;
A sprayskirt is required unless otherwise specified as a rec boat paddle;
Transport Canada requirements for equipment is also a HOC trip requirement: 15m of buoyant heaving tow line, sound signal device, bailing device, watertight light for ½ hour before sunset or ½ hour after dawn;
Wet exit practice (formally called wet exit lesson) within the last 12 months in the current kayak that you are using for a trip;
Kayak with sealed fore and aft bulkhead compartments unless specified as a rec boat paddle;
A minimum of one spare paddle per 2 participants
Please note the club does not provide equipment.

Trip Cost Must purchase own lock pass permit (½ off if purchased before March 31st)
Canada Park Lock Pass is on sale $4.75/ft until March 31st, 2023. (Not included.)
Camping fee not included. It is pay as you go. $5 per night per person, per night

Additional Trip Details 6 days, 6 nights: with option 7th day paddle

MUST BE WILLING TO CAR SHUTTLE 
Drive to the end destination (Beverages lockstation) with someone else in 2 cars, leave one car there and return to beginning point (Kingston Mills lockstation)

TO GO ON THE TRIP
Attending this trip is at the discretion of the trip leaders who must determine a paddler's ability to face the conditions that one will encounter on the Rideau Canal;
It is not recommended for new paddlers;
Paddlers must attend the information session or reach out to the trip leaders;

Start Location: Kingston Mills LockStation

Finish Location: Beveridges Lock (Tays Canal)

Start Date: Sunday, August 20 - car shuttle to Beveridge's LockStation and drive to beginning point, Kingston Mills LockStation. You may camp there or find a nearby motel. 

On water August 21, 2023

Finish Date: Off water Friday, August 25, 2023

On water time: 8am-9am 

Off water time: 4pm-5pm-ish

Total Distance: approximately 106 kms

Must provide own: kayak and paddling gear, tent and camping gear

Must bring own food; easy to make meals recommended as you are paddling all day and setting up camp

OTHER NOTES
Private Property along the canal with no access for bathroom breaks along the way. Anticipate distance to next lock station

Lots of cell service

Rain or shine each day- plan accordingly

Lots of boat traffic. You will encounter waves from the wake of a boat as high as 1 or 2 feet

Launch docks vary in high from 6” to 18” or so

RAIN OR SHINE - worse case scenario is to pack up in the rain and set up in the rain

Locks can and will be filled with boats. Mostly everyone is friendly. We will be with boats of varying size.
