HOC Winterlude

Winterlude is back and with another reason to celebrate!  

Attention Skiers and Snowshoers:  Come and join us at Highlands Nordic on Sat. Feb. 25, 2023 for the Club’s annual Winterlude. There will be some new, exciting activities as we all celebrate the club’s 50^th year of operation.

Lunch is optional:  For $15 per person you can purchase a bowl of either meat or vegetarian chili, a roll, a hot drink (tea, coffee or hot chocolate) and a piece of birthday cake. If you do not wish to participate in this chili lunch, you are still able to participate in the games.

Skiers may take part in a 50 km challenge and snowshoers may take part in a 25 km challenge. Both challenges may be executed with teams of 3 to 5 participants and by the end of the day, each team member’s number of km will be added to collectively achieve the challenge. Team members will be asked to pick a team name and at the end of the day, if the team has reached its challenge, then each team name will be placed in a bowl for a draw and a prize will be awarded to each person on the winning team.

In addition, there will be a photo scavenger hunt and so do not forget to bring your cell phone. One can play on one’s own or you can form teams of 2 to 5 players. Each team will be given a list of 10 possible photos. If by the end of the day, the team is able to shoot at least 8 out of the 10 photos, then the team’s name will be placed in a bowl for a draw and a prize will be awarded to each person on the winning team. The photos will be found on the trail system - both snowshoe trails and green, yellow or blue ski trails.

Everyone can take part in both of the above games but the same team cannot win both games. Consolation prize: the best original, and interesting team name will be decided upon and the names of the winning team members will appear in the next newsletter.
