Easy, paved surface but can we be completely free of ice and snow at this point in the season. We’ll see.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
On the way from Margate Ave. to the Wentworth Street Stairways there is always a lovely view of lower Hamilton, Burlington, and the great beyond from the edge of the escarpment. The return path is the East Mountain Escarpment Trail which is surrounded by escarpment forest providing welcoming visual relief from the urban world we saw from the top. As you can see, it’s a hike with something pleasing for everyone.
ONLINE REGISTRATION NEEDED
Yes, A must. Leaders appreciate early registration and up to at least 24 hours before the event. Up to 15 hikers are welcome. If registration is full, please join the waiting list.
CANCELLATION
• If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.
• The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.
REGISTRATION OPENS
2 weeks prior to the hike
WHAT TO BRING
• Hiking boots
• Water and snacks
• Poles, and possibly icers.
• Face mask
IMPORTANT COVID REMINDERS
Covid measures will be observed.
GUIDING NOTES:
HIKE PACE - Leisure: 3 km/hr or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are average and depending on the terrain.
TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e. rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc.) and Challenging: steep hills and strenuous footing (Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, Dundas Valley and Red Hill Valley). Please note variations can be expected with weather conditions.
