Meet at 9:15 for 9:30 start

MEETING PLACE OR PARKING LOCATION

 RBG Arboretum, 16 Old Guelph Rd.  Meet at the covered pavilion located near the parking meter in the big circular parking lot. Cost is $3.00 per hour. Please pay for 3 hours. Credit card and cash (coin only) accepted. If you have an RBG membership display your parking pass in your vehicle.

Trails are relatively wide and smooth with generally good footing. Rolling terrain with some hills. A few narrower, steeper sections. Expect some muddy sections at this time of year

Point of interests

You will enjoy hiking a variety of ecosystems: waterfront (Cootes Paradise), mixed hardwood bush, field, marshlands, creek valleys and the arboretum.

REGISTRATION

REQUIRED

Yes. A Must. Leaders appreciate early registration and at least 24 hours before the event.

CANCELLATION

   If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.

   The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.

REGISTRATION OPENS

2 weeks before the hike

WHAT TO BRING

   Icers or traction devices on your boots are a must if there is snow

   Proper hiking boots with a good tread. Conditions may be muddy

   Carry: raingear, water, snacks and plenty of water.  Hiking poles will be helpful.

   Dress in layers

The club’s Covid-19 Safety Guidelines will be observed. 

GUIDING NOTES:

HIKE PACE -  Leisure: 3 km/hr or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are average and depending on the terrain.

TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e. rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc) and Challenging: steep hills and strenuous footing (Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, Dundas Valley and Red Hill Valley). Please note variations can be expected with weather conditions.
