Hiking Dundas Valley
Saturday December 5th
Start Time: Meet at 9:15 for 9:30 a.m. start. Finish: 12:00 – 12:30
Meeting Location: Parking area at Ancaster Lions Outdoor Pool, 263 Jerseyville Rd. West, Ancaster. Overflow parking at the Little league Ball diamond directly across the road from pool entrance.
Hike is limited to 20 people. Spaces are available on a first come first served basis, but we will create a waiting list.
Upon arrival, hikers will organize into groups of 10, as per HOC’s new Covid hiking recommendation. Start times will be staggered to allow for distancing.
A Hike:
Distance: 10 +/- kms
Pace: Moderate to Fast: 4 - 5 kms per hour
B Hike:
Distance: 6 -7 kms.
Pace: Moderate: 3 - 4 kms per hour.
Terrain: Trails are relatively wide and smooth with generally good footing. Rolling terrain with some short and long hills.
Description: Both hikes involve a combination of loops and some “out and back” sections, mostly through beautiful hardwood forest. Creeks, valleys, ridges and escarpment outcrops will add to the scenery.
Notes: Wear supportive hiking boots with a good tread. Hiking poles will be useful, as will icers for your boots if there is snow. Bring waterproof raingear, and dress in layers according to the weather. Carry water, snacks, hand sanitizer and a mask.
Note: The club’s Covid-19 Safety Guidelines will be observed.
