Meeting Time: Meet at 9:00 a.m., but aim for 8:45 a.m.
General Location: This hike takes us from Beamsville near the end of the Niagara section to Winona in the Iroquoia section. The boundary between Niagara and Iroquoia is the bridge over Forty Mile Creek in Grimsby.
Meeting Place: Meet at the top of the escarpment on Fifty Rd. From here, we'll car shuttle to the Mountainview Conservation Area. Once you have registered, the leader will send you more specific directions in a document called El Camino Chronicles, Issue # 5.
Type of Hike, Length, Pace, and Duration: A 6 hr., 19.l km linear hike at 3-4 km per hr. with pauses for rest, refreshment, and relief.
Terrain: Most the of hike is on the wooded slope of the escarpment. The trail surface is rocky and the footing is uncertain. We do, however, get a break in the middle of the hike when we walk along Quarry Rd. and Ridge Rd.
Overview: Most of your views will be blocked by the trees that surround you on the escarpment slope. On top of the escarpment, the surroundings are farmer’s fields.
Requirements: Hikers must be HOC members and register on-line for each hike in the series. Wear hiking boots and clothing suitable for the weather and bring a snack, lunch and lots of water.
Voluntary Social: Meet, if you wish, at a nearby eatery to celebrate with food, drink, and fine conversation.
Leader: Richard Reble at reblerichard@gmail.com
