We will start with a meeting with a rep. from Dundas Valley Conservation Authority and then proceed to tidy up the rail trail through west Hamilton and into Dundas. (4km) After an 11zee break, we will hike the Monarch Trail and enjoy the cleaned-up trail.

CANCELLATION
• If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.
• The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.
WHAT TO BRING
• Wear supportive hiking boots with good tread.
• Hiking poles may be helpful.
• Dress in layers according to weather; wear/bring waterproof rainwear.

GUIDE
HIKE PACE - Pace refers to the speed of walking. Rest stops are not figured in to the overall pace, however they are figured in to the duration of the hike. These paces represent an average and may vary depending on the terrain, weather, group size, etc.
Leisurely: 3 km/hour or less.
Fast: 4-5 km/hour.
TERRAIN – This refers to the footing on the trail itself and is influenced by the presence of rocks, roots, step-ups and step-downs, as well as the width of the trail. Please note variations can be expected with wet or icy conditions.
Easy: wide trails, may be paved or hard packed, mostly good footing, i.e. rail trails, waterfront trails
Moderate: some tricky footing, i.e. Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, Conservation Areas, RBG trails
Challenging: significant areas of tricky footing (some parts of the Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, up and down the escarpment).
ELEVATION: This refers to the accumulated elevation gained over the course of the hike.
Low: route is mostly flat but may include some gentle ups and downs

The Waterfalls Hike Series introduces hikers to the most popular of the area’s stunning waterfalls. On this hike we’ll start at Dundas Driving Park to Dundas Peak and Tew’s Falls and see great views of Dundas and this pretty waterfall. Tew’s Falls is a ribbon waterfall and the tallest in Hamilton.

Webster’s Falls is 22-metre-high (72 ft) classical curtain and plunge waterfall, spanning 30 metres in width during peak flow, powered by Spencer Creek.
On this hike we will walk along the shore of Christie Lake to Crooks Hollow, along Spencer Creek and into the Spencer Gorge Conservation Area to view Webster’s Falls. We will stop to view the falls and have a snack before heading back the same way.

Enjoy a morning hike in Dundas Valley on the Heritage Trail and the Bruce Trail to view Canterbury and Sherman waterfalls. Canterbury is a smaller but beautiful terraced-ribboned cascade while Sherman is a high curtain terraced fall from Ancaster Creek. There will be a brief stop at Sherman Falls to enjoy the view and your snacks.

We are heading to two beautiful parts of England: the scenic Peak District National Park and The Cornish Coast near the idyllic town of St. Ives. Accommodation during both weeks will be at HF Holidays country houses, where we will enjoy a wide variety of hiking options. We will travel from one area to the other, by coach bus, stopping for a night in the town of Plymouth.
In each location, well-trained volunteer guides lead 3 levels of hikes on every hiking day. There are opportunities to explore local areas and sightsee on your own.
Accommodation: One week at ‘The Peveril of the Peak’, Dovedale, Derbyshire in the Peak District and our second week will be based at “Chy Morvah”, Cornish for “house by the sea”, HF’s country house in St. Ives, Cornwall.
Cost: $6832 for double occupancy and $7063 for single occupancy.
Number of participants: 26 total, including the leaders. Eight of these spots are reserved for single occupancy.

Scotsdale Farm is a great hiking area that is worth a return visit. We will enjoy the Bennett Heritage Trail, Great Esker Trail, Maureen Smith Trail as well as sections of the Main Bruce Trail.

Description: This extended trip provides the opportunity to spend three days riding in the Niagara area and two evenings to enjoy the cultural and culinary delights of Niagara-on-the-Lake/ Niagara Falls.

Riding Surface: The trails are mostly flat and well groomed (paved, stone dust, packed gravel). Routes are predominately off-road or on signed bicycle lanes. There may be a few kilometers of road cycling required.
Description: Join us for trail rides along multiple scenic waterways in the Montérégie region south of Montreal. Each cyclist will be responsible for their own transportation. Our first stop will be Salaberry-de-Valleyfield (3 nights). We will enjoy 3 days of riding in and around this historic region of Quebec. We will spend the second half of the trip (3 nights) in St-Jean-du-Richelieu exploring the Richelieu River and surrounding countryside.
