THE 2025 KAWARTHA MIDWEEK GETAWAY

An end of season midweek getaway in the heart of the Canadian Shield, with skiing and snowshoe options suitable for everyone, just 40 minutes north of Peterborough.

On Tuesday, we will travel from the Guelph Line carpool parking lot in Burlington, by coach bus, to the Kawartha Nordic Ski Club, where we will have 40Km of ski trails and 10Km of snowshoe trails to explore. After an excellent day of outdoor winter fun, we will withdraw to the Holiday Inn Peterborough Waterfront Hotel where you will find restaurant options within easy walking distance of the hotel for both dinner and breakfast. Wednesday, it’s back to Kawartha Nordic for another great day in the outdoors before our return trip to Burlington.

TRIP ITINERARY

Tuesday, March 4: At 8:00am (0800), the bus will leave Burlington from the Guelph Line Carpool Parking area on the North Service Rd. Overnight parking is free of charge. Please arrive by 7:45am (0745).  Guelph Line Carpool Parking - Google Maps

Taking the 407, our coach bus will travel to the Kawartha Nordic Ski Club, arriving about 11:00am (1100). Enjoy a full day on the trails! The bus will depart Kawartha Nordic at 4:00pm (1600) and drive to the Holiday Inn Peterborough Waterfront Hotel, arriving at about 4:45pm (1645).

Dinner is on your own. There are many dining options within easy walking distance of our hotel as we are in the downtown core of Peterborough.

Wednesday, March 5: You are on your own for breakfast. At 9:30am (0930), the bus departs the Holiday Inn to spend the day, once again, on the beautiful trails at the Kawartha Nordic Ski Club. The bus will leave Kawartha Nordic at 4:00pm (1600) to return to Burlington, arriving approximately 6:30pm (1830).

SKIING/SNOWSHOEING

    • Kawartha Nordic Ski Club provides 40 km of groomed cross country ski trails for both classic and skate, as well as 10 km of snowshoe trails through scenic, Canadian Shield wilderness. Rentals and warm up chalet on site.

    • Ski trails:  Ski trail map is posted at every trail junction, but is also available for download in a larger version.

    • Snowshoe trails: Snowshoe trail map shows trail names and segment distances for three stacked loops: Heartlands (a short 3 km loop with a stop at the Sugar Shack cabin), Wetlands (another 3 km loop with some picturesque wetland vistas) and Uplands (a final 2.5 km loop with a stop at Laderach cabin). Follow the yellow trail markers for the Heartlands trail, blue trail markers for the Wetlands trail and green trail markers for the Uplands trail.

    • Woodfine Chalet: Change rooms and shelves to leave a bag are located in the lower level of the Woodfine chalet. Upstairs is a wonderful spot for a lunch break or rest up before your next activity! Washrooms are located next to the Chalet.
ACCOMMODATION
    • We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Peterborough Waterfront, located in downtown Peterborough on the Otonabee River. The hotel offers a saltwater pool that connects to the outdoors even in winter, as well as an indoor whirlpool and fitness centre. All rooms have Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge and coffee maker.

    • The Riverside Grill is a full-service restaurant, located on site, for either dinner and/or breakfast. There are also many other dining options within easy walking distance of the hotel.

TRIP COST

Skiers: $292.00 (double occupancy) and $392.00 (single).

Snowshoers: $261.00 (double occupancy) and $361.00 (single).

NOTE: You can only register for snowshoeing if you plan to exclusively snowshoe. If you ski and snowshoe you must register for skiing.

NOTE: If we are unable to match you up with a roommate and there are no alternative rooming arrangements, we will cancel your registration and process a refund.

 TRIP PRICE INCLUDES

    •  Transportation by coach bus including driver tip.
    •   One night hotel accommodation.
    •   Trails fees for skiing/snowshoeing.

 NOT INCLUDED IN TRIP PRICE

    •   Dinner Tuesday evening.
    •   Breakfast Wednesday morning.
    •   Lunches and snacks.
    •   Room cleaning gratuities.

Please Note: Masks are not required on the HOC bus. Wearing a mask is optional and the choice remains at the discretion of the individual as their own comfort and concern dictates. If provincial regulations change, mask mandates will change accordingly.

Cancellation Policy:

If you need to cancel, please contact Cheryl, our Club Manager at manager@haltonoutdoorclub.ca, a refund (less $25.00 processing fee), will ONLY be issued if we can replace you from the waiting list.

In the event that the trip is cancelled by the Club, at any point, you will be given a full refund.

If the trip experiences inclement weather that interferes with our planned activities, the trip will NOT be cancelled. Leaders will try to find suitable alternate activities.

While in progress, if the trip experiences unexpected circumstances that are beyond our control, that result in changes to the itinerary and unexpected expenses, members are responsible for any extra expenses that they may incur.
