SKI AND SNOWSHOE THE NEAR NORTH
Thursday - Sunday, February 8 – 11, 2024

The Near North Ski & Snowshoe trip has expanded to 4 days! We plan to ski/snowshoe at Mountain View Ski Centre in Midland, Arrowhead Provincial Park in Huntsville, North Bay Nordic in North Bay and Georgian Nordic in Parry Sound. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn in Huntsville.
Please Note: Masks are no longer required on the HOC bus. Wearing a mask is optional and the choice remains at the discretion of the individual, as their own comfort and concern dictates. If provincial regulations change, mask mandates will change accordingly.
Our Itinerary
Thursday, Feb 8- We will depart Burlington at 8:00 a.m. from the Guelph Line Carpool Parking area on the north side of the QEW at Guelph Line where overnight parking is free. Guelph Line Carpool Parking - Google Maps . Our coach bus will head to Mountain View Ski Centre in Midland where we will ski for the day. Mountain View Ski Centre offers over 25 kms of professionally groomed cross country and snowshoe trails. Our day on the trails will end at 3:00 pm, when we will drive to the Holiday Inn in Huntsville for our overnight stay.
Friday, Feb 9 – We will head to Arrowhead Provincial Park at 9:00 for a full day of skiing and snowshoeing. Arrowhead has 28 kms of beautifully groomed ski trails and 8+ kms of snowshoeing trails, as well as a 1 km ice skating loop through the forest. Our day on the trails will end at 3:30 pm, when we will drive to the Holiday Inn in Huntsville for the night. We have a group dinner planned at The Family Restaurant in Huntsville. The bus will leave the hotel at 6:30 and return @ 8:30-9:00 for the night.
Saturday, Feb 10- We will head to the North Bay Nordic Ski Club at 8:30 for a full day of skiing and snowshoeing. They offer 50 km of groomed trails ranging from beginner to difficult, including some long downhill runs for the adventurous. The Club also offers a variety of snowshoe trails totalling almost 8 kms. Something for everyone! A lunch will be provided. Our departure will be at 3:00 for the return to the Holiday Inn in Huntsville for the night.
Sunday, Feb 11– We will head to Georgian Nordic Ski Club in Parry Sound at 8:30. This area is also part of the Canadian Shield and offers lovely scenic trails that roll through the northern landscape. Georgian Nordic offers over 30 kms of classic trails, 19 kms of skate trails, plus a snowshoe trail of 4.5 km. The bus will leave Georgian Nordic at 3:00 with a short 20 minute stop at the On Route in Barrie on the way home arriving @6:30 in Burlington.
Cost: The price per person is:
Skiers $ 595.00(double occupancy) or $840.00(single occupancy).
Snowshoers $575.00 (double occupancy) or $820.00 (single occupancy)
**You can only register for snowshoeing if you plan to exclusively snowshoe. If you ski and snowshoe you must register for skiing.
NOTE: If we are unable to match you up with a roommate and there are no alternative rooming arrangements, we will cancel your registration and process a refund.
Accommodation: The Holiday Inn Express in Huntsville. Rooms are equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave and a Keurig machine. A breakfast will be included with your stay. There are restaurants (dine in or take-out) and grocery stores located close by.
When registering for this trip, you will need to select your choices for the lunch and dinner that are included. The choices are listed below:
Lunch:
Chili (bun, cookie & drink) OR Vegetarian Soup (crackers, cookie & drink)
Dinner: all meals include soup or salad and dessert
Maple Glazed Salmon (choice of potatoes and veggies)
Roast Beef (choice of potatoes and veggies)
Chicken Parm (choice of potatoes or pasta)
Vegetarian Stir Fry (choice of noodles or rice)

Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel, please contact Cheryl, our Club Manager at info@haltonoutdoorclub.ca. If you need to cancel, a refund (less a $25.00 processing fee), will ONLY be issued if we can replace you from the waitlist.
If the trip is cancelled by the club at any point, you will be given a full refund.
If the trip experiences inclement weather that interferes with our planned activities, the trip will NOT be cancelled. Leaders will try to find suitable alternative activities.
While in progress, if the trip experiences unexpected circumstances that are beyond our control, that result in changes to the itinerary and unexpected expenses, members are responsible for any extra expenses that may be incurred.
