Collingwood Connections Ski/Snowshoe Trip

Friday, Feb 4 – Sunday Feb. 6, 2022

Leaders: Jim and Patti Blair pblair24@cogeco.ca

Here we go with a brand-new winter trip! We will use Collingwood as our base, but we plan to try out a couple of new destinations some of which may be just beyond our reach as a regular day trip. The end result is a new trip that offers less time driving and more time on the trails. We will stay at the Comfort Inn in Collingwood.

The Collingwood Connections trip will be subject to the HOC Covid Guidelines for skiing and snowshoeing as published on the Club website. Please read these guidelines prior to registering for this trip. The ski/snowshoe Covid Guidelines include but are not limited to:

  •       Proof of double vaccination is required to board the bus
  •        Masks will be worn on the bus at all times unless eating or drinking
  •        Participants must answer Covid related screening questions before boarding the bus
  •        Use of resort chalets and other facilities may be limited
  •        Group meals may be modified and/or not offered

In order to be sensitive to complications posed by the pandemic, the Club has negotiated cancellation policies that allow the Club to cancel the trip without penalty up to 30 days prior to the trip start date, allowing your payments to be fully refunded. Should the trip be cancelled, at any time, due to Government imposed travel restrictions, participants will receive a full refund.

Our Itinerary:

Friday, February 4– We will depart Burlington at 8:00 a.m. and drive by coach to the Mansfield Outdoor Centre, a popular Club destination that we don’t get to as often as we would like.  Mansfield offers 34 kms of ski trails and 15 kms of snowshoe trails. The bus will depart at 3:30 and drive on to Collingwood.

Saturday, February 5- We will drive about one hour from Collingwood to Hepworth in the Owen Sound area to ski at Sawmill Nordic Centre. It is a small centre with 11 kms of well-groomed ski trails as well as snowshoe trails.  An alternative for Saturday is a network of trails near Markdale at Glenelg. Your leaders will scout both areas early in the season to determine which location offers the best option. Both Sawmill Nordic and Glenelg boast high volume snowfalls.  If, for any reason, neither are suitable we know where we can find good alternatives in the Collingwood area!

Sunday, February 6 - We are off to Midland to try out Mountainview Ski Centre, where the Club used to ski many years ago. Mountainview offers 35 kms of double track ski and skate trails as well as snowshoe trails (a 5 km and 7 km). We will depart Mountainview at 3:30 to be back in Burlington at 5:30 p.m.

Your leaders, Jim and Patti will scout these new areas early in the season to determine the best location for our Club’s skiers and snowshoers. We are very excited to try out these new destinations.
