January Mid-Week Getaway – Huntsville

January 12 - 13, 2021

Leaders:  Heather McClintock and Ralph Gardave

The January Mid-Week Getaway ski and snowshoe trip to the Huntsville and Parry Sound area is back, due to the great success last year!  We plan to ski / snowshoe at Arrowhead Provincial Park in Huntsville and Georgian Nordic in Parry Sound and stay at the Holiday Inn in Huntsville.

This trip has been designed with the assumption that we remain in Stage Three of re-opening or better. Should we return to Stage Two, or lower, the trip will be cancelled. The January Mid-Week Getaway trip will be subject to the HOC Covid Guidelines for skiing and snowshoeing as published on the Club website. Please read these guidelines prior to registering for this trip. The ski/snowshoe Covid Guidelines include but are not limited to:

  • Masks will be worn on the bus at all times unless eating or drinking
  • Participants must answer Covid related screening questions before boarding the bus
  • Use of resort chalets and other facilities may be limited
  • Group meals may be modified and/or not offered

In order to be sensitive to complications posed by the pandemic, the Club has negotiated cancellation policies that allow the Club to cancel the trip without penalty, up to 30 days prior to the trip start date, allowing your payments to be fully refunded.

The bus will leave Burlington at approximately 8am on Tuesday, January 12th travelling to Arrowhead for the first day.  Arrowhead has 28kms of classic trails and 16km of skate trails for all levels and 8km of snowshoe trails. Leaving Arrowhead at approximately 4pm we will spend the night in Huntsville where dinner is on your own.  There are many good local restaurants in Huntsville.

The bus will leave Huntsville at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13th to ski at Georgian Nordic.  Georgian Nordic has 34 km of classic trails of which 19km include skate ski trails.  Georgian Nordic has 4.5 km of snowshoe trails.  The bus will leave Georgian Nordic at approximately 3pm, with a quick stop on the way home arriving approximately 6:30pm.

The Holiday Inn includes a microwave and mini-fridge in each room, breakfast, pool and fitness centre.  Restaurants, groceries and alcohol are available directly across the road as well as many more options if you want to take a taxi into town.

The trip includes bus, hotel, breakfast and all trail fees. The trip does not include dinner.  The cost is $224 per person for double occupancy and $297 for single occupancy.  The maximum number of participants is 34. Four spaces are available for “single” accommodation, on a first come-first served basis.

Cancellation Policy:  You may cancel your trip and expect a full refund, minus a $25.00 processing fee (per application), up until December 8, 2020.  After that date, you will be responsible for any costs that the Club incurs on your behalf.  This could include costs for transportation, accommodation, meal, leader subsidy, etc.  If you cancel after the cancellation date, we will attempt to find a replacement from the wait list; however, there are no guarantees.

In the event that the trip is cancelled by the club at any point, you will be given a full refund.

If the trip experiences inclement weather that interferes with our planned activities, the trip will NOT be cancelled. Leaders will try to find suitable alternative activities.

While in progress, if the trip experiences unexpected circumstances that are beyond the control of the Club and causes changes to the trip itinerary that result in unexpected expenses, individual members are responsible for any extra expenses that may be incurred.
