Ski The Near North

Arrowhead Provincial Park, North Bay Ski Club, Georgian Nordic Ski Club

Friday-Sunday, March 6-8, 2020

Leaders: Freda and Clive Wright

Last year the “near north” ski trip was so successful due, in part, to the huge snowfall that fell just before the Club’s arrival in the area, that we are planning to repeat this trip again in March, 2020. The “feedback” from the participants indicated the trip was enjoyed by all, whether skiing or snowshoeing. Let us hope that Mother Nature will be kind to us in 2020 as we return for three days of skiing in the near north and for what, may be, the “grand finale” ski trip for the 2020 ski season. What a way to end a ski season!

Friday, March 6, 2020 - We will depart Burlington at 0800 hours and head to the Huntsville area where we will spend the afternoon skiing in the heart of Muskoka at Arrowhead Provincial Park, with 28 kms of ski trails and 8+ kms of snowshoeing trails.

Saturday, March 7, 2020 - We will head, once again, to the North Bay Nordic Ski Club. A different terrain with long downhill runs and spectacular views, depending upon the individual trail. The ski trails range from “easier” to “more difficult” to “most difficult” - something for everyone. The Club also offers a variety of snowshoe trails totalling almost 8 kms.

Sunday, March 8, 2020 – We will head to Georgian Nordic Ski Club in Parry Sound. This area is part of the Canadian Shield. Georgian Nordic offers 30 kms of skating and classic trails, plus an “official” snow-shoe trail of 4.5 kms as well as an option to snow-shoe in the forest where there is plenty of open space. We will end the weekend with a group meal at the Wellington Pub and Grill in Parry Sound, on Sunday afternoon, prior to our drive back to Burlington. This group meal is included in the registration fee.

Cost: The price per person is $385.00 (double occupancy) or $540.00 (single occupancy).

Accommodation: Holiday Inn Express in Huntsville. The Holiday Inn offers a variety of services including mini-fridges and microwave in all rooms. A hot and cold breakfast is served each morning. The maximum number of participants is 50. Only three rooms are available for “single” accommodation. This will be on a “first come-first served basis”.

Exclusions: Gratuities, Dinner, March 6 and 7, lunches, any alcoholic beverages

Cancellation Policy: You may cancel and expect a full refund, minus a $25.00 processing fee per application, up until February 1, 2020. After that date, you will be responsible for any costs that the Club incurs on your behalf. This could include costs for transportation, accommodation, meal, leader subsidy, driver tip, etc. In addition, you will be responsible if you cancel out of a “double” for the cost difference to a “single”. If required, we will attempt to find a roommate for any single wishing to share a room.
