Haliburton Hiking Trip

September 27 -29, 2019

Leaders Jim and Patti Blair

Here is a brand-new trip that will take hikers to the beautiful and rugged trails of the Haliburton Highlands, at one of the most beautiful times of the year! If you have been with us to Haliburton to ski you will be familiar with Pinestone Resort where we will stay for two nights. If not, you are in for a treat.

Itinerary: We leave Burlington at 8:30 a.m. on Friday September 27, from our usual location at Mainway Arena. We will travel by coach bus, stopping to hike in the Durham Regional Forest in the Oak Ridges Moraine area, north east of Toronto. The trails here are primarily hardwood bush with rolling ups and downs. After hiking we will continue by bus, up to Pinestone which is just a few minutes from the town of Haliburton. The second day we will hike trails at the Leslie Frost Centre. With any luck there will be some grand fall colour. On the third day we will seek out more hiking trails in the Haliburton area before returning to Burlington on Sunday evening.

The Hikes: We will do our best to offer a long, medium and short option on all hikes. There is still scouting to be done by the trip leaders to determine exact routes, however we will be aiming to offer long hikes of approximately 11 -15 kms., medium hikes of approximately 7 – 10 kms., and short hikes of 4-6 kms. As the trails in Haliburton can be very rugged these distances may be altered. Distances may also be affected by the weather, availability of pick up and drop off points and on our timing. We are hoping that at this time of year we will be immersed in fall colour. However, predicting when the leaves turn is a bit like trying to predict the first snowfall (hopefully they do not happen at the same time!). Hikers should be prepared with supportive waterproof hiking boots, hiking poles and should be able to carry a daypack with ample water, food for a day hike and extra clothing, including rain gear. Further hike details will follow once we have scouted more thoroughly.

Our Accommodation:The Pinestone Resort is located on Highway #21, just outside of the town of Haliburton. It is in a scenic rural setting that backs onto a golf course, trails, and a pond. Pinestone has an indoor saltwater pool, a fitness centre, a spa (massages not included in the trip cost), an on-site bar, as well as a full dining room. Rooms are large and well equipped with free wireless internet, a coffee maker and the majority of rooms have a mini fridge, allowing you to purchase lunch food to take with you on our daily hikes.

Trip Cost:The trip cost is $465 for double occupancy and $640 for single occupancy.

The Trip Package Includes:

  • all transportation by coach

  • two nights’ accommodation

  • two breakfast buffets with hot and cold options

  • two buffet dinners
