Meet in the parking lot, located on 339 Oakdale Ave, L2P-2T4. Centennial Gardens are across from some tall buildings. Turn off Westchester Cress to Oakdale Ave.

Generally easy trails with good footing. Expect some gentle up sections. It can be muddy if we have rain few days early.

Loop, out and back, End to End

Out and back.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Point of interests

Combination of wide and narrow trails. Mostly flat and some gentle up sections along the 12 Mile Creek and Welland Canal. No hills per se. Hike will take us along parks, city roads, the old canal towards Thorhold. Nice historic bits along the old Welland canal. Will hike to Lock 7 on the Welland Canal and have a break there. Hoping washroom is open at the museum.

Leaders appreciate early registration and at least 24 hrs before the event.

CANCELLATION

   If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.

   The club may cancel due to  bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.

REGISTRATION OPENS

Two weeks before the hike. Up to 12 hikers are welcome to participate in this event.

WHAT TO BRING

   Hiking boots or good walking shoes.

   Bring snacks and plenty of water.

   Carry First Aid and Tick Removal kits.

   Check the weather to wear extra layers, bring wind and rain gear as necessary. 

SOCIAL Aprés HIKE

Optional social after the hike. De La Terre on 55 Geneva St, short distance from parking lot. This is one of my favourite place for “cortado coffee” and sourdough bake goodies.

GUIDING NOTES:

HIKE PACE -  Leisure: 3 km/hr or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are average and depending on the terrain.

TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e. rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc) and Challenging: steep hills and strenuous footing (Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, Dundas Valley and Red Hill Valley). Please note variations can be expected with weather conditions.
