2022 Volunteer Trip Leader Development Program  

Halton Outdoor Club is a non-profit volunteer-based club, and we are seeking volunteer trip paddling leaders to help shape today and future paddling trips.  Become involved by joining us for a six-part Volunteer Trip Leader Development Program. The program consists of three (3) virtual series, one (1) basic Red Cross first aid course, one (1) real live experiential on the water course and then a mentor to show you the way and be part of the journey. 

Our purpose as a Club is: 
Active and Energized Together Outdoors.

To create and sustain a community of members engaged in year-round, healthy, outdoor activities, where everyone is encouraged to participate, volunteer, learn and grow.

 May 5, 2022 – Class #1

Come on out to find out what it means to be a club leader, learn about the tools and resources such as HOC handbook & policies.
Introduction; objectives of the program; skill level required to be a trip leader; HOC best practices; mission, vision, values; types of trips (day, extended); insurance; PC requirements.
Guest Speakers: 3 Current HOC Volunteer Trip Leaders.

 May 12, 2022- Class #2

Risk Management. When to “pull the plug”, change the plan. Communication, effective positioning as a leader. Looking at the risks when environment/weather/participants are all in ‘the pool’.

 May 19, 2022- Class #3

Leadership Principles & Strategies to manage your pod pre-during-post trip. Identify your pod’s dynamics to achieve the best trip results. Learn effective communication tools.

16 Hour Basic Red Cross First Aid Course

Standard First Aid-Level C, CPR/AED

* this is not a wilderness first aid course
Two-part course
(1) online course at own pace prior to in person (8 hours)
(2) in person course (8 hours)
Cost $185.00   HOC sport subsidy 50% available * (conditions apply)

CANCELLATION:

•  If your plans change, please contact the Club Manager at info@haltonoutdoorclub.ca to cancel so that other HOC members may take your spot.

•  The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.

•  Not refundable unless your spot can be filled from the wait list.

Mentorship 

HOC current Volunteer Trip Leaders available to mentor you throughout the season. They will help you on “how to plan a trip, organize a trip, and lead a trip”.  Co-leading trip(s) where possible for the season.
