MEETING PLACE OR PARKING LOCATION

Park at the Felker’s Fall Conservation Area, located on 44 Ackland St, Stoney Creek. Free parking area

DISTANCE

Approx. 10 kms

PACE:

Leisurely / Moderate / Fast

Moderate – 4 km per hour average.

DURATION APPROX

Approximately 3.5 hours of walking time including breaks.

TERRAIN:

Easy / Moderate / Challenging

Challenging. Mostly along the Bruce Trail. Small section on the road.

TYPE OF HIKE:

There and back with some short loops

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Point of interests

Enjoy the escarpment with all of its wonderful rock formations and views. We hike mostly along forested trails. Starting at Felker’s falls, hike under the Red Hill Valley Parkway to see the Glendale and Albion falls. We will also hike along the edge of Red Hill Creek. No washrooms facilities. 

REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Yes. A Must.  Leaders appreciate early registration and at least 24 hours before the event.

CANCELLATION

If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.

The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.

REGISTRATION OPENS

1-2 weeks prior to the hike

WHAT TO BRING

Wear supportive hiking boots with good tread. Hiking poles will be very helpful.

Dress in layers according to weather

Carry waterproof rainwear, snacks and water

Sun protection if necessary

IMPORTANT COVID REMINDERS

The club’s Covid-19 Safety Guidelines will be observed. 


GUIDING NOTES:

HIKE PACE -  Leisure: 3 km/hr or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are average and depending on the terrain.

TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e. rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc.) and Challenging: steep hills and strenuous footing (Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, Dundas Valley and Red Hill Valley). Please note variations can be expected with weather conditions.
