2024 Spring Information Fair
Saturday, December 12 - Valleys and Hills Hikes - Short Hills Provincial Park
Start Time: Meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start.
Meeting Location: Short Hills Provincial Park. Parking on Pelham Rd (on the South side of the road) between First St Louth and Effingham.
Distance: 9 kms approx.
Pace: 3 - 4 km/hr. Finish around 1:00 pm
Terrain: Trail varies from wide and gravelled to rough and narrow. Fairly good footing but some ruts due to rain erosion. Few ups and downs (short hills).
Description: We will hike along Swayze Falls Loop and the Bruce. Now the views are quite different since the last time we hiked this park, late in the summer. This 660 hectares park combines forests, meadows, many short hills and creeks but the many bridges are proof that in the spring these creeks would be roaring. Swayze Falls is dry for a good part of the year, no wonder it is called “the dry fall”. If we are lucky we might spot deer, red foxes and wild turkeys. Some days in Nov. and Dec. the local First Nations are deer harvesting but today we will be safe hiking the beautiful trails.
Bring: Water, snacks, rain gear and appropriate hiking footwear. If snow and ice on the ground icers and poles are recommended.
Note: The Club's Covid 19 safety guidelines will be observed.
