January Winter Sport UPDATE
Valleys and Hills Hikes - Short Hills Provincial Park
Date: Thursday, September 17, 2020
Start Time: Meet at 9:15 am for a 9:30 am start. Covid guidelines will be reviewed. Finish around 1:00 pm.
Meeting Location: Short Hills Provincial Park. Parking on Pelham Rd (on the South side of the road) between First St. Louth and Effingham.
Distance: 12 kms approximately
Terrain: Trails vary from wide and gravelled to rough and narrow. Fairly good footing but after a rainfall, the trails could be muddy. Some challenging ups and downs.
Description: We will hike along Black Walnut, the Bruce, Scarlet Tanager and Hemlock Valley trails. This 660 hectares park combines forests, meadows, many short hills and creeks (mostly dry during the summer) but the many bridges are proof that in the spring these creeks would be roaring. If you are bird or tree aficionado you will be in paradise. This park is among many Carolinian forests in Canada having many black walnuts, hemlock and American chestnuts trees. If we are lucky we might spot deer, red foxes and wild turkeys.
Bring: Water, snacks, rain gear and appropriate hiking footwear. Don’t forget your mask and hand sanitizer. Poles are recommended.
Note: The Club's Covid 19 safety guidelines will be observed.
