Start time: Instructions to all participants will be given out at 9:00am which includes Covid 19 concerns.
Hike Information: Meet at Waterworks Park in Brantford. Starting at Waterworks park, we will walk the dyke (or possibly the Grand Valley trail) which runs parallel to Wilkes Dam. The trail becomes the S.C. Johnson trail and goes along the scenic Grand River with lots of tree coverage and some historic sites. The end point is the Pedestrian Bridge over the Grand River. We would then return back to Waterworks Park.
Distance: Approximately 12 km which includes out and back.
Pace: 3 to 4 km per hour. Including a snack break at the bridge, the route will be about 3½ to 4 hours.
Hike Grouping: Ratio of 1 trip leader with 9 participants which includes a sweep.
Terrain: Basically flat with a few hills.
What to bring: After registering for the hike the trip leader will send out a follow-up e-mail including weather conditions. Dress accordingly, but bring a hat, sun glasses, back pack, water, a snack, poles (optional), hiking boots, sunscreen, bug repellant and topics for good discussions.
Directions: Waterworks Park is at 400 Grand River Ave., Brantford. Take 403 west to Fairview Drive-exit 36. Turn Left on Fairview (ON 24), left at 1st crossing onto King George. Continue on King George to St. Paul’s Ave, (King George becomes St. Paul’s). Turn right onto Grand River Ave., and a slight left into Waterworks Park which is beside the Brantford Transit site.
