Camino Magnifico: Bruce Trail End-to-End, Hike # 11 (A)

Sat., July 18, 2020

Covid Measures: This hike is restricted to only half of the end-to-end group, 10 people. If registration is full, try 11 (B) on Jul. 19. The two hikes are exactly the same.

What and Where:  This is an end-to-end hiking group restricted to 20 members in total. We are now at full capacity. We are currently hiking in the Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club's section of the Bruce Trail.

Who:  Participation in this hike is limited to HOC members who joined the E-2-E in 2019.

Time:  Beat the heat. We'll start at 8:00 a.m. but check in 7:45 a.m.

Meeting Place and Turnaround Place:  As a Covid measure, arrive with only one person in your car, the driver. Park on the wide shoulder of Hwy. 5 (Dundas St.) on the south side of the road, as far away from the traffic as you can. The spot you're looking for is where the Bruce Trail crosses. See Km 78.2 of Map #9 in the 29th edition of the Bruce Trail Guide. The route of the hike is from the Hwy. 5 meeting point to the cemetery at the corner of Walker's Line and No. 2 Sdrd. then walk back. The cemetery is at Km 88.2 of Map #10 in the Bruce Trail Guide.

Type of Hike, Length, Pace, and Duration:  A 5 hr. or less there-and-back hike, 20 km at 4+/- kmph.

Terrain:  Easy. Moderate ups and downs through woods in the first bit and then road work till the cemetery. Don't forget, though, we have to walk back.

Overview:  This is the hike where we finally turn away from Lake Ontario and head northeast toward Hwy. 10. The main feature of the landscape will start to be farmfields interrupted here and there with sections of the escarpment.

Requirements:  Registrants must be HOC members and must have been steadily hiking with the group since 2019.  Also, hikers must register no later than midnight on the Thursday preceding the hike. If registration is full (10 people) for Group A, register for Group B on Sun., July 19, or vice versa. It's the same hike with a different set of 10 people. Wear hiking boots and clothing suitable for the weather of the day. Bring snacks, lunch, and plenty of water, and I do mean plenty. As a Covid recommendation, you might feel comfortable in bringing a face mask and hand sanitizer.

Leader: Richard Reble at reblerichard@gmail.com or 905-945-0536 anytime before 9:00 p.m.
